How can we help?

Whether you're having trouble with a specific feature or just want to suggest an improvement, we're here to help you get the most out of Ethernet Menu Monitor.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Public IP isn't showing up.

The App fetches your public IP using a secure request to api.ipify.org. If you have a very strict firewall or are behind a complex proxy, this request might be blocked. Ensure your Mac has active internet access and try clicking the "Refresh" button in the menu (if available) or restarting the app.

How is latency measured?

We measure latency by timing a lightning-fast connection attempt to Cloudflare's global DNS (1.1.1.1). This method is much more reliable than traditional ICMP "pings," which are often throttled or blocked by ISPs and macOS security layers. The result you see is the real-world responsiveness of your current path to the internet.

VPN Detection isn't working for my provider.

Ethernet Menu Monitor detects VPNs by looking for active virtual interfaces (usually named utun). Most major VPN providers (Mullvad, Tailscale, NordVPN, etc.) use this standard. If your VPN uses a custom proprietary protocol that doesn't use standard virtual interfaces, it may not be detected. Feel free to email us with your VPN provider's name so we can investigate.

Is my data safe?

Absolutely. All network processing, including speed monitoring and interface details, happens 100% locally on your Mac. We never see your traffic, your IP, or your location. For more details, please see our Privacy Policy.
